15 Great Poems That Stand Out

August 11, 2010

Summertime seems like the perfect time to enjoy some poetry. In summer people tend to be a little different…. More able to Hear & Receive. Maybe it’s the stillness of life, the slowing down to relax, sipping lemonade and just being. Poetry has a ring of music to it and produces a wide range of emotions with few words and for me… the ring of truth. This made me put together a list for great poems that I have enjoyed over the years.

So….here’s my 2 cents on great poems that stand out & stand the test of time.

1. The Road Less Traveled * by Robert Frost
2. Still I Rise * by Maya Angelou
3. A Dream * by Edgar Allan Poe
4. Nothing Gold Can Stay * by Robert Frost
5. Where the Sidewalk Ends * by Shel Silverstein
6. Wild Nights! Wild Nights! * by Emily Dickinson
7. Evening Star * by Edgar Allan Poe
8. To The Garden The World * by Walt Whitman
9. On the Grasshopper and Cricket * by John Keats
10. The Spider holds a Silver Ball * by Emily Dickinson
11. Silence Sings * by Thomas S. Moore

13. The What Ifs * by Dini Petty
14. I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings * by Maya Angelou

Create Your Second Life The Way You Want

September 2, 2009

I have been doing some reading about Mid-life Crisis and what they really are. I’m finding the information fascinating to say the least. I am a woman who is in her mid-life…now… and I have to say that I’m having a ball so far. No…Really…I am!

So here’s my 2 cents on creating the second life the way you want.

Now that I’m in my Mid-life I (I’m)…
1. Not concerned about what the “They’s” say, as in what will THEY think
2. Dress the way that I want to…not because a fashion magazine told me to do so
3. Believe in myself more
4. Believe in my skills and talents
5. Fully believe that I DO have all my answers within me
6. Choose not to wear high heels
7. Say what I really think more
8. Speak from the heart more often
9. Believe I can make a difference in the world
10. Choose friends who add to my life
11. Drop acquaintances that DRAG me down
12. Creating a wider circle of unique friends of various ages
13. Re-Designing how I spend my time and energy
14. Organizing my life…starting with WHO I REALLY AM
15. Being Authentic
16. Letting go of old and outdated labels that no longer fit

What life do you want?

Have you started your Re-Design life yet?

Until next time… Make each day count!

Be Real,
Nicole

12 Reasons To Look For More Meaningful Work

August 27, 2009

Over the years I’ve had a few lousy jobs & not because of the co-workers or clients. This was largely due to the fact that many Supervisors, Managers and Bosses do not know how to treat the very staff they hire. Communication lines between what Management want and what they said or how they said it were in complete opposition to the results they wanted. This got me thinking about what makes a job (No matter how great the pay) NOT worth it to stay.

So….here’s my 2 cents on reasons to look for another job

1. Non-existent open communication with Boss
2. Non-existent open communication with Co-workers
3. “Having fun at work” is a foreign concept to all
4. Complete and utter dread going into work each day
5. This “rough period” has turned into months, years or DECADES (Yikes!!!)
6. Yelling at employee’s is considered “Standard Operating Procedures”
7. No room for ANY creative ideas or input from staff
8. Meetings are a joke…No agenda except the “hidden” one that becomes the fear for all staff members
9. “Please speak openly and we’ll listen to your ideas about changes” is code word for “Spill the beans on what is REALLY going on in your department/area; we won’t do anything, but we just want to know”
10. Secrets, secrets and more secrets from Management
11. Your immediate Supervisor or Boss uses words like: Insubordination, Authority, Letter of Insubordination going into Your file… (Start looking immediately for other job)
12. My personal favorite… “We have decided to change a few of your job roles to give you more of a growing edge…” Code word for “You have MORE work to do now with the same amount of pay & twice the amount of problems and this is not up for discussion!”

What limits will you set?

How can you create more meaning to your career?

Until next time… Make each day count!

Be Alert,
Nicole

12 Reason s To Create Joy In Your Life

August 24, 2009

I have made a few major changes in my life these past few years. I have come to realize that these changes have increased the amount of joy into my life. Both simple and not so simple ideas that have made a big impact on me.

So….here’s my 2 cents on reasons to create joy in your life.

1. Your life is Your Life, so stop waiting for it to start…It Already Has!
2. YOU get to determine how much joy You Want to experience…So choose well
3. Doing what makes You happy…Is JOY!
4. Go with your first thoughts on a decision…usually the one that is best for you in the end
5. More joy = More joy to give away to others
6. Joy = Personal Freedom to be Authentically You!
7. Joy is contagious…So pass some around today
8. No one ever says “Stop being so joyful!” (If they do…leave immediately)
9. Joy leads to Bliss…Bliss is what Humans are Really striving for
10. Joy is our nature state… just Being
11. Joy is our natural born right…Demand some joy from your life!
12. Joy and passion are cousins…passion is the driving force that leads to action

What brings you Joy?

24 Words To Remove From Your World

August 17, 2009

I recently overheard 2 women talking to each other in a coffee shop. The 2 of them seemed to complain about Everything! I literally had to move from MY seat to get away from all that negativity. Really… there’s NOTHING going on in your life that you are grateful for?! So… this got me thinking, what can each of us do to help eliminate the useless mental garbage that we spew out so casually.

So….here’s my 2 cents on words to eliminate from your world.

1. I can’t
2. I don’t know
3. I cannot believe…
4. I should…
5. Yeah but…
6. I tried that and it didn’t work (once)
